Jan 25, 2021: Sharing knowledge for climate action and environmental improvement

The Webinar is hosted by the FAO’s Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance (FAO LEAP) Partnership. Leaders of the LEAP Technical Advisory Groups (TAG) will present guidelines on climate action and environmental improvement.

How to assess the environmental impacts from feed and livestock production?
How to improve the carbon footprint of livestock without unintended consequence on eco-systems?
How to detect and disseminate best practices on climate action and environmental improvement?

These are main questions to be adressed by the 150-minute online event.

Time: 25 Jan 2021, 9:00-11:30 and 16:00-18:30 (CEST)

The seminar welcomes all livestock stakeholders interested in environmental assessment and knowledge sharing, including users of the LEAP guidelines and environmental assessment standards, representatives from governments, private sector, non-governmental organizations, civil society, investment organizations, standardization bodies, academia, research and foundations.

In this virtual event, guidelines that have been developed recently as a result of intense international collaboration will be presented.
ATB-scientist Dr. Katrin Drastig, co-chair of the Technical Advisory Group for Water Use Assessment (Water TAG) will be presenting 'Water use in livestock production systems and supply chains – Guidelines for assessment'.

The online seminar is a stepping stone toward the roll-out of the LEAP Catalogue of Applications, which will be launched later on this year to accelerate the adoption of evidence-based better practices for climate action and environmental management in feed and livestock sectors.

The LEAP (Livestock Environmental Assessment and Performance) Partnership is a multi-stakeholder initiative that is committed to improving the environmental performance of livestock supply chains, whilst ensuring its economic and social viability.

Farmers, consumers and other livestock stakeholders are increasingly in need of more information about the environmental performance and the sustainability of livestock supply chains. Although a wide range of environmental assessment methods have been developed, there is a need for comparative and standardized indicators in order to switch focus of dialogue with stakeholders from methodological issues to improvement measures.

LEAP develops comprehensive guidance and methodology for understanding the environmental performance of livestock supply chains, in order to shape evidence-based policy measures and business strategies.
