Book release: Sensing Plant Water Status

May 18, 2018: The book „Sensing Plant Water Status - Methods and Applications in Horticultural Science“ edited by ATB scientist Werner B Herppich has recently been published in the ISHS series Acta Horticulturae. It contains some of the most interesting contributions of the ISHS symposium on Sensing Plant Water Status held 2016 in Potsdam. The meeting had attracted more than 100 reknown international scientists.

Articles describe recent findings on established and new methods in sensing plant water status from all fields of relevance - considering the fundamentals of the methodology as well as helpful hints achieved in applications. The book highlights the fact that precise knowledge of the physiological basics of all aspects of plants water status is essential but also knowledge and experiences in measuring techniques are targets for the agricultural community. Improved methods to evaluate water use efficiency but also the actual water needs of plants are essential for the horticultural production. A comprehensive understanding of basics of plant water status may help to optimize postharvest condition during harvest, in storage and also during processing. Excessive water losses in postharvest need to be prevented in order to avoid unnecessary loss of freshness and to reduce waste.
