This privacy policy applies only to the internet presence of the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy e.V. (ATB). Other data protection guidelines may apply to pages to which external links lead. The specifications and assurances in this data protection declaration therefore only apply to our website and not to websites of other providers.
Data processing is conticted by the website operator. The operator's contact details can be found in the website's required legal notice.
General notes
The protection of your privacy when using our website is important to us. We will handle your personal data confidentially and in compliance with the legal data protection regulations and in line with this privacy policy.
The following gives a simple overview of what happens to your personal information when you visit our website. Personal information is any data with which you could be personally identified. This privacy policy explains what kind of information we do collect, how data are processed and for which purpose the data are used.
Please note that data transmitted via the internet (e.g. via email communication) may be subject to security breaches. A complete protection of your data from third-party access is not possible.

2. Collecting and processing of data
a) Your data is collected when you share it with us. This could be data that you enter in a contact form (for example, when you sign up for a conference). The collection of any personal data (such as name, address or email addresses) is always done on a voluntary basis (more information). The legal basis for the use of data is Article 6 (1) (a) of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
b) Technical data is collected automatically by our IT systems when you visit the website. Every access to our website and each download of a file on the website are logged. Access data is stored in a log file on our server. This data may include your IP address, user-agent string, browser type, operating system, referral URLs, device information (e.g., device IDs), device settings, mobile carrier name, pages visited, links clicked, the requested URL, and search terms.
A compilation of this data with data from other sources is not made. We have a legitimate interest in the error-free provision of the website. The processing of data is based on the legal basis of Article 6 (1) (f) of the GDPR.
c) In addition, we use data to analyse your user behaviour by means of cookies. You can find information on this under points 5 and 6.
3. Use and disclosure of personal data
How we use information
We use this data to provide, maintain, and improve the services.
This website includes forms where you may enter personal or business data (e-mail addresses, names, addresses) in order for us to respond to your questions, to execute contracts with you (for example on the the participation in a conference) and for technical administration. The input of these data is carried out on a strictly voluntary basis. Your data will be treated confidentially and will be only stored outside of the log system until the processing of the special subject (e.g. conference) has been finalized and in compliance with statutory retention periods. Disclosure to third parties will not take place for commercial or non-commercial purposes.
Automatically logged data help us to protect the safety of ATB and our users, which includes blocking suspected spammers and hackers, addressing abuse, and enforcing the ATB User Agreement and our other terms and policies, as well as comply with applicable law.
We monitor and analyse trends, usage, and activities in connection with our services.
How we share information
To comply with the law: We may share information if we believe disclosure is in accordance with, or required by, any applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, including, but not limited to, meeting national security or law enforcement requirements. To the extent the law allows it, we will attempt to provide you with prior notice before disclosing your information in response to such a request.
In an emergency: We may share information if we believe it's necessary to prevent imminent and serious bodily harm to a person.
To enforce our rights and promote safety and security: We may share information if we believe your actions are inconsistent with our User Agreement, rules, or other ATB terms and policies, or to protect the rights, property, and safety of the services, ourselves, and others.
Aggregated or de-identified information: We may share information about you that has been aggregated or anonymized such that it cannot reasonably be used to identify you. For example, we may show the total number of times a page has been viewed without identifying who the visitors were.
4. Information, blocking, deletion - Which rights do you have ragrading your data?
As permitted by law, you have the right to be provided at any time with information free of charge about any of your personal data that is stored as well as its origin, the recipient and the purpose for which it has been processed. 5. Use of cookies
Our website uses cookies. These are small text files that are stored on the computer of the user. Most of the cookies we use are so-called 'session cookies'. 'Session cookies' simplify navigation on the pages or to maintain certain functionalities. They are automatically deleted after your visit. Other cookies remain in your device's memory until you delete them. These cookies make it possible to recognize your browser when you next visit the site.
We have a legitimate interest in making it easier for you to navigate our pages and to ensure the website's functionalities. The legal basis for the processing of personal data using technically necessary cookies is Article 6 (1) (f) GDPR.

6. Analytics tool Matamo
When you visit our website, your surfing behaviour can be statistically evaluated. This is mainly done with cookies and with the analysis program Matomo. Matomo is an open-source web analysis service that complies with the data protection regulations of the European Union.
The system is hosted on our ATB server. All data is automatically anonymised and only stored on our server.
Matomo also uses so-called 'cookies' (see 5). The information generated by the cookie (including your abbreviated IP address) is transferred to our ATB server and stored for the purpose of analysis, serving to optimise our website. During this process, your IP address is immediately made anonymous, so that you as a user remain anonymous to us. The information generated by the cookie about the way you use this website is not passed on to third parties.
You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser, however please note that if you do this you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website.
