Although in many countries around the world insects are quite commonly found on the menu - for research the use of insects as food and feed is a rather new topic. From the perspective of research, insects are, among other things, promising due to their efficient protein production.
The colloquium highlights the current ATB research approaches on edible insectsa as a resource for food and feed:
How can flour fractions obtained from edible insects be isolated and characterized?
What strategies are needed in order to develop and explore the value chain insects as an alternative for soy and fishmeal in animal feed?
What is the potential of residue based insect cultivation for producing of fish feed?
And finally: What safety aspects have to be considered in the processing of edible insects?
