July 7, 2017: Results of the COST Action "Biochar as option for sustainable resource management (TD1107)" have now been published in a special issue of the Journal of Environmental Engineering and Landscape Management. Articles are available open access.
The COST-Action "Biochar as option for sustainable resource management (TD1107)" networked European research activities on the production and application of biochar for a period of four years (2012-2016).
Research results of the COST Action "Biochar as option for sustainable resource management (TD1107)" have now been published in a special issue of theJournal of Environmental Engineering and Landscape Management (25:2, 2017).
ATB scientist Dr. Jürgen Kern was co-initiator of the COST Action. He was actively engaged in COST Consortium and together with Dr. Ruben Sakrabani from Cranfield University (GB) coordinated one of the four Working Groups. WG 4 aimed at analysing the impacts of different biochar systems across Europe's soil types, agro-ecosystems and climate regimes. A further subject matter was the potential of biochar materials to substitute culture media deriving from peatlands.
ATB researches since 2009 in the field of biochar production and application. Further projects besides the COST Action TD1107:
APECS (2009-2014; Funded by: BMBF)
Chancen und Risiken des Einsatzes von Biokohle und anderer "veränderter" Biomasse als Bodenhilfsstoffe oder für die C-Sequestierung in Böden (2012-2013; Funded by: BMU)
Biochar in Agriculture (2012-2015; Funded by: SAW Leibniz-Gemeinschaft)
Gärprodukte zur Verbesserung der Stallhaltung und der Bodenstruktur - ein integraler Ansatz (2017-2021; EIP/ILB BB)
Biochar research at ATB is assigned to the research programs: "Material and energetic use of biomass" and "Technology assessment in agriculture".
