Nov 16, 2017: Closing the Sustainability Circle - 11th Round Table of the Cofresco Forum at ATB

The Cofresco Forum’s 11th Round Table on 16 November 2017 entitled “Closing the Sustainability Circle: Protection of Food with Biobased Materials – How Consumers Benefit from New Materials and Research” will focus on the use of biobased materials to protect food.

In addition to their various properties, modern packaging should also be sustainable. With this in mind, biobased materials offer an interesting alternative as they can play an active role in reducing food waste.

The 11th Round Table of the Cofresco Forum at the Leibniz Institute will provide answers and insights on the following topics and questions:

• Which new materials are there and which are suitable for food packaging?

• How sustainable are biobased plastics?

• How can we improve the detection of pathogens and display the individual shelf life of food items?

Lectures by international experts on the subject will provide a comprehensive overview of current research. Speakers will not only focus on materials, but also on other ideas to improve the conservation of food.  In an extensive hands-on session, attendees will also have the opportunity to view the ATB’s test equipment and experiments.

During the hands-on session, participants will be able to view the research centre of the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy. The laboratories used to produce basic materials for bioplastics will be inspected and test series for various approaches to food preservation will be presented.   After the session, the attendees will have the opportunity to network with the speakers and other participants during a casual get-together.

Participation in the Round Table is free

The conference language is English.

The registration deadline is 9 November 2017

Cofresco Frischhalteprodukte GmbH & Co. KG founded the Cofresco Forum in 2001. The Forum’s activities are aimed at driving research in the field of household packaging for food. Over the past years, the Cofresco Forum has therefore promoted a variety of research projects. The topics ranged from active and smart packaging to alternative freshkeeping methods and sustainable packaging. In addition, the Cofresco Forum has established a large network of scientific and business experts involved with the topics of packaging, fresh-keeping and preparation of food in the household. This led to the creation of an international platform for scientists and experts, which has generated a large number of ideas and scientific approaches within a comparatively short space of time in the specialist field of packaging and household packaging.
