ATB-Colloquium:
Transition towards a sustainable bioeconomy – Indicators measuring progress, drivers, and effects
This colloquium will give insights into issues of monitoring the bioeconomy by presenting initial thoughts of a beginning PhD project. Point of departure is the observation that the transition from a fossil-based to a bio-based economy is considered a pathway towards a more sustainable economy. Yet, little is known about its actual progress, drivers, and effects. Is substitution of biomass for fossil fuels taking place? What are prerequisites for a sustainable transition, i.e. one that contributes to climate mitigation, food security, and economic growth, among others? How can a sustainable transition be accelerated? After a short introduction of problem, research question(s), and methodology, questions and a lively discussion are very welcome.
