Aug 15, 2016: Dr. Christian Patermann visited the ATB today. Scientists of ATB presented the founder of “knowledge based bioeconomy” the institute and some of the latest research results during a brief tour. Dr. Joachim Venus was presenting the pilot plant for production of lactic acid at first. Further stations were the pilot plant for natural fiber processing, biochar laboratory and the freshness lab.
Dr. Christian Patermann was impressed by the broad spectrum of interdisciplinary research in bioeconomy. He encouraged the scientists to expand their applied fundamental research in bioeconomy.
Dr. Christian Patermann was visiting the ATB already at the ATB´s refoundation in 1992. He was in a leading position in the administration staff of the then Federal Minster of Science and Technology Prof. Dr. Heinz Riesenhuber in those days.
In his role as Director at the European Commission for environment and sustainability, as well as for biotechnology, agriculture, forestry, food and fishery Dr. Christian Patermann was influencing the European science of bioeconomy significantly. In context of his work he coined the term of “knowledge bases bioeconomy”. After his retirement in 2007 he was appointed to the German Bioeconomy Council, of which he was a member until 2013.
