March 23,2015: Dr. Rubén Echeverría, Director of the International Center for Tropical Agriculture, Head Partnerships & Donor Relations, visited the ATB. One aim of the information visit was to explore the possibilities of future research collaborations. The visit included talks with ATB-director Reiner Brunsch as well as a tour through ATB's scientific infrastructure.
The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), headquartered in Columbia, has been involved for over 40 years in the fight against hunger and poverty. It aims at improving human nutrition in the tropics and is active in research to increase eco-efficiency in agriculture.
CIAT scientists operate in Latin America, in the Carribean, in Africa and Southeast Asia. Currently CIAT runs some large global projects in the field of sustainable development supported by German institutions (a.o. GIZ, BMZ and BMUB).
The visit was initiated by the Columbian Ambassy in Berlin.
Dr. Doreen Burdack presented the Leibniz Research Alliance „Food & Nutrition“ with its 14 partner institutes as a vital network of research competency in the field of sustainable agricultural production and healthy nutrition - from molecular to macro-economic level.
