Oct 6, 2015: Representatives of the association of Chilean walnut producers and the irrigation association visited the institute. They came to get information about energy efficiency and sustainability in agricultural production.
ATB-scientists presented the latest research results. Dr. Jürgen Kern informed about the use of lumber fruit crops based on results of the EU project EuroPruning. Another topic was the use of biochar from agricultural residues for use in the soil. Next stop was the optic lab. Prof. Dr. Manuela Zude introduced new sensor-based processes including for the compilation of the hydrologic balance in nuts. Dr. Oliver Schlüter and Christian Hertwig demonstrated the Chilean guests in the freshness lab new methods for hygienisation, for example by the use of cold plasma. Particular interest aroused the innovative approaches to energy-efficient drying technology.
Both sides expressed interest to start cooperation in the framework of research projects. The meeting was organized by the Cámara Chileno-Alemana de Comercio e Industria A. G. (CAMCHAL).
