Aug 17, 2018: Martin Penzel receives the ISHS Young Minds Award for his contribution on mechanical flower thinning in apples. ATB scientist Dr. Manuela Zude-Sasse was awarded with an ISHS Medal of Honour for her commitment as Commission Chair for Irrigation and Water Relations. Award ceremonies took place in the frame of the XXX. International Horticultural Congress (IHC2018) in Istanbul, Turkey.
Martin Penzel was honored with the ISHS Young Minds Award for the best poster presentation in the symposium "Understanding Fruit Tree Behavior in Dynamic Environment" for his contribution "Mechanical thinning in apple reduces fruit dropping".
On behalf of the ICH Scientific Committee, Prof. Dr. Ayzin B. Kuden from Cukurova University presented the certificate to the young ATB scientist on the occasion of the XXX. International Horticultural Congress (IHC2018), which took place from 12-16 August in Istanbul, Turkey.
Martin Penzel is currently working at ATB on his doctoral thesis on the determination of the yield capacity of apples with field-suitable sensors under the expert supervision of Dr. Manuela Zude-Sasse and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Cornelia Weltzien, TU Berlin.
Also awarded was ATB scientist Dr. Manuela Zude-Sasse. She received the ISHS Medal of Honour for her committed acticities as Commission Chair for Irrigation and Water Relations of the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS). After four years of chairmanship, she resigns from this function.
One of the next big congresses under the roof of ISHS will be held 2026 in Kyoto, Japan.
