July 3, 2019: Digital tools in agriculture was the topic of an intensive scientific exchange between German and Chinese experts beginning of July. The Sino-German Agricultural Centre (DCZ) had invited to a two-day conference on "Digital tools for organic and small scale farming" at the ATB.

For the fifteen experts from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS) and from other Chinese agricultural universities, the conference at the ATB was the start into a one-week information tour through Germany. On the German and European side, scientist from ATB, HNEE, ZALF, as well as from universities of Wageningen WUR (NL) and Budapest (H) took part in the scientific exchange.

The conference targeted state of the art in research on digitization in agriculture. Topics presented and discussed covered data acquisition and use for applications such as water management or crop protection. Special focus was on digital technologies for small-scale and organic farming.

A particular highlight was the presentation of selected research projects at ATB's Fieldlab for Digital Agriculture at the research site Marquardt.

The DCZ-CAAS Conference was coordinated and organized by Dr. Ing. Eva Sternfeld, Advisor Science Dialogue and S&T Platform at the DCZ.

The Sino-German Agricultural Centre (DCZ) is a joint initiative of the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China (MARA). The DCZ was established in March 2015 as a central contact and information office and for the purpose of coordinating the bilateral cooperation between Germany and China in the agricultural and food sector.
