11 Sept 2012: For the best dissertation in food chemistry in 2012, Dr. Franziska Grzegorzewski was awarded the Gerhard-Billek price of the German Chemical Society (GdCh). Thus, GdCh recognizes outstanding work characterized by originality, scientific, interdisciplinary approach and significant progress in the field of science. Grzegorzewski's research work focused on plasma-induced selective oxidation reactions of natural products and plant biopolymers. She was PhD student at the Institute of Food Chemistry and toxicology of TU Berlin and worked on her thesis at the ATB in collaboration with the Leibniz Institute for Plasma Research, Greifswald. The award was presented at the 41st German food chemist day, 10 to 12 September, hosting some 600 scientists at the Wilhelms-Universität Münster, Germany.
