Summary
Every year, about 2500 tonnes of asparagus covering plastic film are produced, most of which is currently thermally recycled. The high proportion of soil in the lateral film pockets currently precludes sustainable recycling of the films. Within the framework of the proposed project, a demonstrator is to be developed that can open the bags filled with sand and soil, empty them, clean the film and wind it up. The aim is to prevent microplastics from entering the environment. The cleaned films should then be recyclable. The project partners are a research institution (ATB), a mechanical engineering company specialising in asparagus technology (HMF) and various asparagus-producing companies as supporting partners.
