Summary
Background of the project: In grassland an optimum soil acidity is important in order to maintain yield, elasticity of crop and nutritional value of the feedstock. In field studies variations of soil pH from 4.0 to 7.5 were measured within 100 m distance. It is assumed that on grassland comparable conditions exist. These variations can not be detected by means of the recognized VDLUFA grid sampling standard method. The sampling density is the most important factor for an environmentally friendly and efficient fertilization. Our geostatistical analyzes show that on diluvial soils sampling intervals of less than 30 m are necessary. Therefore, a sensor system and a method for the high spatial resolution on-the-go-mapping were developed on agricultural land. Experiments in grassland showed that the soil sampler must be re-designed for use in grassland. Also the measuring method must be adapted to the changed conditions. In addition, data for the evaluation of precision farming technologies are needed in grassland.
