Opening of the new laboratory complex for the research on quality and safety of food and feed at the ATB

On 27 August 2013, the new laboratory complex for research on quality and safety of food and feed at the ATB is going into operation in the presence of Brandenburg's Minister of Science, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. Sabine Kunst and Tillmann Stenger, CEO of ILB.

With the new research facilities, laboratories and pilot plants ATB has excellent infrastructure for research on quality and safety of food and feed - a relevant issue for producers and consumers alike.

Equipped with latest measurement technology and analytics laboratories and pilot plants provide an excellent platform for research on process chains of fresh or little processed vegetable and animal products, such as fruits, vegetables, grain and meat - targeting at more energy-efficient, resource-saving, ergonomic and economical processes.

Research at ATB covers the entire spectrum between primary production and consumption of food and feed - from basic research to industrial implementation. Current research examples include sensor-based solutions for quality analysis, which increase the automation level and improve traceability, new methods for hygienization such as the use of cold plasma on delicate foods and energy-efficient drying Technology for grain and medicinal plants.

The total cost of the measures amounted to 3 Mio €, funded to 75% by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as well as by state and federal governments by 12.5% each.
