Antimicrobial resistance (AMR), a growing threat to human health, is one of the most difficult global health policy challenges in the 21st century. Improved hygiene and better prevention and treatment have diminished the incidence of infectious diseases, particularly in industrialized countries over the past decades, with antibiotics playing a major role in removing the fear of infectious diseases. However, increasing antimicrobial resistance and the emergence of new pathogens, together with changes in pathogen distribution due to altered climate and mobility, are increasing global challenges for humankind.
Working on a strong interdisciplinary and cooperative infection research agenda, the Leibniz Research Alliance “INFECTIONS in an Urbanizing Word—Humans, Animals, Environments” opens up new avenues of communication across disciplines to approach the globally relevant health and societal challenge of infectious disease transmission with focus on the spread of antimicrobial resistant microbes. Experts from various scientific fields are going to attend the conference and will present their latest findings over the course of two days. This includes insights from LRA INFECTIONS researchers, both early career scientists and doctoral students, as well as a range of invited speakers, who are leaders in their respective fields. They will talk about their most important new insights and latest empirical findings in the context of AMR. An enlightening panel discussion will conclude the symposium.
A detailed overview of all the chairs and speakers as well as the complete programme can be found in the recent flyer.
