The INSECTA conference proved to be a complete success also in 2022. It was held from September 14 to 16, 2022 at the Justus Liebig University Giessen, Institute of Food Chemistry and Food Biotechnology. More than 230 participants from around 30 countries discussed inspiring keynotes and interesting contributions from a wide range of topics related to the production and use of insects.
With more than 60 participating industry representatives and eleven sponsors, the INSECTA conference has been successfully established as a place of fruitful exchange between science and industry.
Keynotes provided an overview of current developments and prospects for insect production and processing in Europe, new processing technologies and the use of insects in aquaculture. They also addressed topics such as the contribution of the gut microbiome to the bioeconomy and the tension between animal welfare and industrial production of insects.
The topics of the scientific presentations covered the entire insect value chain, from insect rearing to processing into food and feed as well as for the non-food sector to safety and environmental aspects.
The "Book of Abstracts Insecta 2022" (published under license CC BY 4.0) contains the abstracts of all contributions and can be downloaded here.
The annual INSECTA conference is organized by the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) and Pilot Pflanzenöltechnologie Magdeburg e. V. (PPM) on a rotating basis.
The INSECTA conference 2023 will be held in Magdeburg, Germany.
