Feb 27, 2019: Two ATB members were among the eight Iranian doctoral candidates and scientists who were invited to present their current research projects at the Federal Institute for Food and Nutrition (BLE) in Bonn. Their research topics are of particular importance for Iran, such as measures for an improved water use efficiency.  

The doctoral program of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) with the Islamic Republic of Iran is focusing on topics that are of particular importance in Iran, such as measures to improve water use or sustainable production of local feed. All doctoral researchers concentrate on issues that play a significant role in Iran's agriculture, food, forestry and fisheries industries.

Naser Reyhani is currently researches at the ATB how the soils around the largely dried up Zayandeh River can be used in the long term by effective water management. "Water is one of the most important topics in Iran and can therefore be the starting point for many more changes," he emphasizes. "Through the exchange and cooperation with different research institutions, I have the opportunity to get different perspectives, which greatly expands my scientific and personal horizons."

The topic of Dr. Ali Jalali, who currently works in ATB's research program "Quality and safety of food and feed", is mathematic modelling of processes of fresh produce packaging, storage and supply chain. 

Background: The Doctoral Program is an instrument of the BMEL within the framework of the Bilateral Exchange of Scientists to promote cooperation between German scientific institutions with foreign research institutes in the agricultural, food, forestry and fisheries sectors as well as the nutrition and health consumer protection sector. The goal is to have valuable cooperation for both participating countries. In particular, junior scientists and scholars are supported. In order to make a sustainable contribution to improving global food security along the entire value supply chain, the BMEL promotes various projects in the field of global nutrition, which are managed by the BLE as funding agency.
