Fruitful discussions at FRUTIC 2018

Feb 6, 2018: For the international FRUTIC Symposium on February 06, 2018, experts from 22 countries met in Berlin to discuss latest research and emerging technologies on optimizing water use in the supply chain of fresh produce.

In her keynote, Prof. Merete Edelenbos from Aarhus University, Denmark, focused on the potentials and risks of hot water treatment for fruit and vegetables.
Another keynote was held by Prof. Juan José Alarcon from CEBAS-CSIC, Spain, an internationally leading expert in the field of plant physiology under water stress and irrigation water management.

The topics presented by the scientific contributions ranged from the targeted use of precise irrigation for more fruit quality to new sensor technology for recording the water status in fruits. In the postharvest chain, water plays a crucial role in maintaining quality and food safety - from washing, cleaning, sanitizing and cooling to hot water treatment of fruit. Moreover, innovative concepts for reducing and preventing water formation in packagings were presented.

FRUTIC provides the platform for research network on emerging technologies or current issues in the industry.

The international symposium FRUTIC was jointly organised by ATB and University of Foggia, Italy. It was the second symposium that was held in Berlin in cooperation with FRUIT LOGISTICA at Messe Berlin.
