Congratulations to ATB scientist Dr Marwa Shumo! She is researching at the ATB on the possibilities of industrial production of insects as feed and for waste recycling.
Together with more than 90 young researchers from all over Germany, she discussed diverse as well as pressing topics - from black soldier flies to strategies against climate change - at the Bioeconomy Camp in the Science Year 2020|21. The common goal of paticipating scientists: to network across disciplines and drive forward a bio-based economy of the future.
The second day of the event was also dedicated to science communication. In an exhibition with artefacts and posters, the young researchers presented their ideas on cross-disciplinary topics in an artistic form. The best research ideas from the Barcamp sessions were decided by means of a voting procedure. Ministerial Director Oda Keppler, Federal Ministry of Education and Research, congratulated the winners at the closing event.
ATB scientist Dr Marwa Shumo has won one of the five prizes of 3000 euros each.
Congratulations!
The online conference Bioeconomy Camp took place on 30 September and 1 October 2021 on the initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in cooperation with the University of Hohenheim. The participants came from very different disciplines - from environmental technology and biology to the humanities and economics. The aim of the event was to bring the concept of the bioeconomy to life with all its potentials and challenges and to illuminate it from different perspectives.
