Sept. 21, 2017: The coordinator of the project group OptiNutrient, Thomas Amon, had invited project members for a two-day creative workshop at the ATB to further develop the concept of an innovative circular bioecomomy on basis of agricultural residues.
OptiNutrient is one of six concepts with ATB participation on sustainable agricultural systems, which have reached the second round of the BMBF call for proposals "Agrosystems of the Future" (BMBF Ausschreibung „Agrarsysteme der Zukunft“) and receive funding for further conceptual development.
The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) had invited a social exchange on the "agricultural systems of the future" and launched a call for a competition "Agrosystems of the Future". The call focusses on innovative solutions for a sustainable, resource-efficient agricultural production that is adaptive with regard to changing climate and environmental conditions and is guaranteeing a responsible production of food and renewable resources.
As a first step, the most visionary ideas were presented in the context of an open 'competition of visions', selected by an expert advisory board and discussed in a workshop in September 2015. On the basis of the developed visions and the resulting questions, long-term research and development requirements as well as overall social priorities were identified and brought together. The Expert Advisory Board, a panel of experts from agricultural research and related scientific areas, accompanies the process - from the development of long-term future visions to implementation strategies.
Background: Today's agricultural production is accompanied by high resource and land consumption as well as considerable greenhouse gas emissions. However, there is the opportunity to establish agriculture as an innovative future sector that matches sustainably with environment and global systems. To this end, the restrictions, problems and conflicts of objectives of today's agricultural systems must be overcome and issues of social acceptance must be taken into account.
