With Minhui Li and Manuele Bettoni, two young scientists have successfully completed their doctorates in the field of plant production over the last few days. Congratulations!

Minhui Li has very successfully defended her PhD thesis at the Technical University of Berlin. She investigated the impact of proximal and remote-sensing platforms on imaging techniques to determine agronomic parameters such as camera position, angle and resolution. In addition, she explored how micro-terrain structures affect the construction of 3D point models using structure-from-motion and proposed a novel micro-terrain elevation model to enhance estimation accuracy. Minhui Li also analysed different camera sensor technologies at different spatial scales. She published her research results in three peer-reviewed publications. The expert supervision of Minhui Li at ATB was provided by ATB scientist Dr. Michael Schirrmann.
We congratulate Minhui Li and wish her all the best for her new task as a postdoc researcher in China!

Manuele Bettoni also successfully defended his doctoral thesis at the University of Pavia (Italy). He was supervised by ATB soil expert Dr. Sebastian Vogel.
For his doctoral thesis, Manuele Bettoni conducted research as part of the DFG funded project SoilScape "What makes a soil landscape robust? Sensitivity of the landscape to land use changes in a southern Alpine valley (Ticino, Switzerland)" and dedicated himself to the task of quantitatively assessing the sensitivity of the southern Alpine soil landscape to disturbances caused by land use changes. The analysis of the impact of land use changes on physical and chemical soil properties was carried out using a linear mixed model due to the nested structure of the data.
We congratulate Manuele Bettoni and wish him all the best for his future career in Italy!
