Prof. Dr. Gabriele Berg, head of the Department of Microbiome Biotechnology at the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy (ATB) and professor at the University of Graz, has been included by the renowned Web of Science Group in the list of ‘Highly Cited Researchers 2024’. Once again, Prof. Berg is one of the most cited and thus most influential scientists in her field.

The most cited researchers are named as part of the ‘Highly Cited Researchers’ programme. The award goes to individuals who have had a significant and far-reaching influence in their research fields. Each selected researcher has written several Highly Cited Papers™ that have been ranked in the top 1% of citations in the Web of Science™ over the last ten years – a sign of exceptional influence in their respective fields.

Prof. Dr. Gabriele Berg has already been honoured four times by the programme. In 2018, 2019 and 2020 in the field of ‘Cross-Field’. This year, for the first time, she is one of the ‘Highly Cited Researchers’ in the research field of microbiology. Congratulations!

‘We are very proud and delighted that research in the field of microbiome biotechnology has once again made Prof. Berg one of the world's most cited scientists. This award is proof of her scientific excellence and also strengthens the international visibility of the ATB,’ says Prof. Barbara Sturm, Scientific Director at the ATB.

This year, 6,636 researchers from 59 countries were identified as highly cited. 332 scientists from Germany were included in the list, putting German science in 4th place in the top 10 again this year. In the field of microbiology, 192 highly cited scientists were identified worldwide.
