More yield, less fertiliser: pH-BB project enables precise liming with the help of sensor-based soil mapping

As part of the pH-BB project, we have developed innovative solutions for more sustainable agriculture together with our partners from the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development (HNEE), the Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ) and our practical partners. These solutions have been published in a reference book on precision liming. The open-access manual has been released by Springer-Verlag and is freely available.

With the help of the latest sensor technology, soils can be precisely analysed, fertilisers used more efficiently and yields increased, while conserving resources. Detailed soil maps will enable farmers to optimise liming and thus use fertiliser more selectively. This in turn has positive economic consequences for farmers.

The book offers a comprehensive introduction to sensor-based soil mapping, application tips and numerous practical examples that show how farmers can implement directly the new findings and, thus, improve soils in a targeted manner.

The free e-book can be downloaded here.
