Summary
The sequestration of carbon through modern and innovative cultivation and utilisation methods of renewable raw materials is seen as a possible contribution of agricultural primary production as well as subsequent processing to achieving the climate targets. The fibre plant hemp with its comparatively diverse utilisation options offers great potential to meet these requirements. Moreover, as an additional crop, it can contribute to breaking up crop rotations, which have been narrow in some cases up to now, and thus to increasing biodiversity. This applies all the more to the rather poor site conditions in the state of Brandenburg and with a view to the future demands on the climate resilience of agricultural production. The work and results of the Climate Hemp Project are intended to make a significant contribution to significantly expanding the hitherto very incomplete data basis regarding the possible contribution of the cultivation and use (in a selected application) of fibre hemp to improving the climate balance in agricultural production. In addition, a balance of the carbon flows along the value chain from cultivation to the product, which can only then be realised, should evaluate or prospectively enable opportunities for CO2 certification as well as possibilities for participation of the pre-production chain of renewable raw materials in certificate trading. Close cooperation is sought with other economic actors in Brandenburg (Hanffaser Uckermark e.G., Hanf-Akademie e.V., Kompetenznetzwerk Nutzhanf) within the framework of Klimahanf in the necessary preparation of raw materials, especially for the collection of data and their validation.
