Summary
The project aims at a gentle and dry decontamination process for eggshells on the basis of atmospheric plasma. The presence of microorganisms, especially Salmonella enteritidis (SE) in poultry population and in the food chain is to be suppressed by reducing their entry via chicken eggs / hatching eggs. Research focuses on the inactivation of micro-organisms in general and SE in particular, through specially produced atmospheric plasma - without affecting the egg shell and delicate cuticle or hatchability in hatching eggs.
