Summary
The project concept Development of a concept for the introduction of 5G in the Dahme-Spreewald district in the Golßen-Mittenwalde-Schönefeld model region and preparation for self-financed or private-sector implementation with the involvement of market participants - foodChain illustrates essential elements of a 5G-capable implementation of communication-intensive industries using the example of Agriculture 4.0. With the aim of applying the performance features of the new mobile communications generation to current challenges in agricultural crop production, realistic application scenarios are being created that are equally significant for research institutions and industry. To this end, the project area in the west of the Dahme-Spreewald district is being provided with a mobile and autarkic campus network. This means that both the energy supply and the connection to the public mobile network are solved wirelessly. This means that the project area is not tied to one location, but can move with the planned crop rotation. Modern fuel cells provide a flexible and sustainable power supply through regenerative energy sources. The overall concept is made up of various sub-projects that are defined in such a way that they address all application groups of the 5G standard individually and in combination. The cultivation of organic potatoes and pickling cucumbers typical of the Spree Forest were selected for the project planning. A particular challenge for all radio-based communication technologies in agricultural crop production is the path loss through the plant stand, which is why this is given special attention in the project. Furthermore, sub-projects on the topics of field robotics, UAV use and precision agriculture will ensure efficient and reduced use of resources in the future and thus also make a decisive contribution to nature conservation on agricultural land.
