Coordinator within the Leibniz Lab Systemic Sustainability (LLSYSTAIN), co-coordinator of Workpackage 4: Innovations for sustainability transformations
2024-today: Co-Founder | Managing Director | Senior Expert, EarthYield Advisories, Berlin, Germany
EarthYield Advisories offers scientific consulting services for agriculture and rural development. I co-founded this company with my business partner Franziska Brundell to bring innovative and integrative approaches to the sector. We work for e.g., GIZ and IAK Agrar Consulting.
2016 - 2024: Researcher & Project Manager, HFFA Research, Berlin, Germany
Scientific consulting and international project management in the realm of climate change adaptation, agrobiodiversity, soil protection and sustainability in agriculture. Developed methods and tools for evaluating climate risks and adaptation effectiveness, conducted cost-benefit analyses, and authored numerous reports and peer-reviewed papers. Coordinated international projects commissioned by e.g., GIZ, BMZ, PIK, the Crop Trust, University Gießen. Project acquisition and proposal writing. Strategic development in the realm of scientific advisory for development cooperation.
2018 - 2022: Guest Researcher, Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Potsdam, Germany
Conducted research on climate change adaptation in agriculture and the socio-economic impacts of agrobiodiversity. Contributed to multiple high-impact studies and reports on adaptation and sustainable land use in Sub-Saharan Africa.
2020 - 2021: Genebank Impacts Fellow, Crop Trust, Bonn, Germany
Evaluated the International Potato Center’s potato repatriation program, focusing on the economic value of plant genetic resources and food security.
2015: Agricultural Economist, Science Team, Climate Analytics, Berlin, Germany
Engaged in research and modeling on the economic impacts of climate change in Africa. Managed knowledge transfer and collaborated with African institutions for a project commissioned by AfDB, UNECA, and UNEP.
EDUCATION
2018 - 2022: PhD (Dr. rer. agr.), Humboldt University Berlin / Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research
Research Focus: The economics of plant breeding and plant genetic resources for food and agriculture. Developed methodologies to measure the economic impacts of breeding programs and agrobiodiversity on agricultural productivity and sustainability.
2011 - 2014: Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics (M.Sc.), Humboldt University Berlin, Germany
Study Focus: Econometrics, development economics, and tropical agriculture. Conducted a thesis at the International Potato Center (CGIAR Center) in Lima, Peru on the driving factors of agro-biodiversity, focusing on intra-household potato diversity in collaboration with GIZ.
2008 - 2011: Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations (B.A.), University of Technology Dresden, Germany
Study Focus: Development policy and economics, with supplementary studies in Latin American regional studies. Completed an exchange semester in Changsha, China.
