Summary
There is currently a lack of loss minimizing economic storage systems in all cultivation and recovery strategies for SRC wood. Depending on the harvesting process and storage system, spoilage-related losses of up to 25% by mass can be tolerated, which completely affect the reduced revenue. The aim of this project is the development of a novel process for the intelligent ventilation drying of wood chips with cold air. For efficient gas drying, control algorithms have to be developed for product-optimized ventilation systems that allow maximum utilization of the drying potential of outside air in winter. At the same time, nocturnal cooling is required to minimize microbiologically induced losses. For this purpose, both basic research for heat and mass transport in wood chip heaps, as well as flow, material and strength analysis of bulk material loaded ventilation systems are being carried out. On the basis of system modeling and subsequent simulation calculations, the energy efficiency of the overall system will be optimized.
