Summary
Mathematical modelling in the BeLuVa (1.0) project (2018-2021) provided initial insights into how boundary conditions influence the air exchange rate (LWR) in individual animal holding areas (TAB) and local concentration ratios of target and trace gases. The project provides an important basis for the design of healthy housing systems in terms of minimal pollutant and germ loads. BeLuVa 2.0 builds on this. The aim of this project is to investigate in detail the influence of geometric features of the animal enclosure area (TAB) and previously neglected heat transport processes on the accuracy of predictions of gas distribution patterns and air exchange rate (LWR) of individual TABs in order to further refine the BeLuVa model from the previous project. Another goal is to expand the basic understanding of the influence of wind direction. The aim is to identify tipping points at which a change in wind direction significantly alters the flow pattern. Goal three is to refine the parametric models derived in BeLuVa for local air exchange and gas balancing accuracy. Model results are cross-validated with measurements in the wind tunnel and in the real barn. The expected fundamental insights are a prerequisite for the further development of models and measurement strategies for LWR and emission processes. The transferability of the results to different building types and climatic conditions also enables an evaluation of the accuracy of currently used measurement methods depending on the actual boundary conditions.
