The Long Night of Science (LNDW) celebrates its 25th anniversary on the 28th of June 2025, and you are invited! From 5 p.m. to midnight, around 50 scientific and science-related institutions in Berlin will open their doors and give visitors an exclusive look behind the scenes. They offer more than 1,000 program items that give visitors the opportunity to take part in spectacular experiments, exciting lectures, science shows, and lab tours. The events are spread across of five Berlin districts and, as always, the LNDW program is aimed at all age groups and offers special program items for schoolchildren.

The Leibniz research networks “Green Nutrition – Healthy Society” develops scientific solutions for a sustainable future to meet the challenges of global food systems. The four partner institutes, the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Technology and Bioeconomy (ATB) in Potsdam, the German Institute of Human Nutrition Potsdam-Rehbrücke (DIfE), the Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops (IGZ) in Großbeeren and the Leibniz Institute for Food Systems Biology (LSB) in Freising, will make sustainable nutrition a tangible experience for all the senses on this evening. The questions addressed include: What does sunburn look like on a fruit, and how can it be avoided? Why is cabbage valuable for a healthy diet? How does sustainable cheese ripening work? What do edible insects smell like?

Furthermore, the Leibniz research networks “Green Nutrition, Healthy Society” offers a half-hour live demo during the “Late-Night Program” between 10:00 p.m. and midnight, in which modern technology for improving the understanding of plant growth is demonstrated! Part of the demonstration includes the different calibrations of sensors for measuring plant data in the field. A highlight is the presentation of how fruit trees are measured in different climates and how this data helps to improve climate resilience. Come by and discover how science helps us meet the challenges of climate change!

This year, tickets will be available starting the 7th of March 2025 at the anniversary price of €5 in the ticket shop!
