Enabling and valuing diversity: Diversity Charter signed

ATB is convinced that living diversity and valuing this diversity has a positive impact on our institute and on society in Germany. For this reason, we have signed the Diversity Charter.

Diversity among employees and managers: In 2024, around 48% of academic staff came from 31 different countries. In total, around 28 % of our staff has an international background. The proportion of women in management positions is predominant and balanced among employees. Many of our employees are carers for children and elderly family members. Some cope with their day-to-day work with physical or cognitive impairments. Others invest a lot of time in voluntary work. As a company, we value this diversity of perspectives and want to support our employees in their diverse realities.

By signing the Diversity Charter (“Charta der Vielfalt”), ATB is standing up:

  1. ... to cultivate an organisational culture that is characterised by mutual respect and appreciation. We create the conditions for managers and employees to recognise, share and live these values. They have a special obligation to do so.
  2. ... to review its HR processes and ensure that they do justice to the diverse skills and talents of all employees as well as our performance standards.
  3. ... to recognise diversity within and outside the organisation, to value its potential and to use it profitably for the company or institution.
  4. ... to make the contents of the charter the subject of internal and external dialogue.
  5. ... to provide annual public information about our activities and progress in promoting diversity and appreciation.
  6. ... to inform its employees about the added value of diversity and to involve them in the implementation of the charter.

Signing the Diversity Charter complements and expands ATB's commitment. Since 2010, we have been regularly certified as part of the audit berufundfamilie for the compatibility of family and career in the various phases of life.

Background: The Diversity Charter is an employer initiative to promote diversity in companies and institutions. It was launched in December 2006 by four companies and is supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Migration, Refugees and Integration, Minister of State Reem Alabali-Radovan. The centrepiece of the initiative is a document. It is the Charter of Diversity in the literal sense and a voluntary commitment by the signatories to promote diversity and appreciation in the world of work. More than 6,000 companies and institutions with over 14.7 million employees have already signed the Diversity Charter, and new signatories are constantly being added.
