Sara Bußler (1st prize winner) was honored for her study “Processing of legumes – The influence of high isostatic pressure, pulsed electric fields and high temperatures on the properties of pea flour and on yield and structure of soluble pea proteins”.
Christian Hertwig (3rd prize winner) received the prize for his diploma thesis entitled “Effect of pulsed electric field processing on juice yield and selected physico-chemical properties of pear mash”, he worked on at the Australian CSIRO Food and Nutritional Sciences.
Both studies were supervised by the Department of Food Biotechnology and Process Engineering, Technical University Berlin.
Didier Bonnet, Global Food Research Leader for Cargill, presented the prize during the EFFoSt Annual Meeting 2013 held in in Bologna, Italy, November 11-15.
The European Federation of Food Science & Technology (EFFoST) annually launches the “BSc/MSc Student of the Year Award” (SOYA). SOYA is open to European students currently studying for either a BSc/MSc in food science or technology disciplines and honors outstanding scientific thesis. The prize, donated by Cargill Company, is launched to support and encourage the next generation of food scientists.
The European Federation of Food Science & Technology (EFFoST) is a non-profit association that federates food science and technology organizations in Europe. EFFoST is the European group of the International Union of Food Science & Technology (IUFoST), which in turn is a full member of the International Council for Science (ICSU), the scientific organization of the United Nations (UN).
