Summary
In the previous project phases I and II the FNR joint project Sorghum has contributed significantly to the assessment of the cultivability of sorghum species and hybrids as energy crops. Sorghum III aims not only at an optimized cultivation but also at the transfer of results into the agricultural practice. Nuclear elements are: (1) Cultivation trials for optimizing yield through suitable varieties and harvesting days as well as optimization of sowing and soil processing. (2) Experiments on late cultivation as second-crop and cascadic use of the biomass provided by sorghum plants. (3) On-farm trials on specific questions of these farms including farms with recultivation areas. (4) Testing substrate quality in particular for biogas production, followed by a test of economic viability.
