The Leibniz Research Network “Mathematical Modeling and Simulation” organizes the eighth Leibniz MMS Days which will be hosted by the Leibniz Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde (IOW).
The Workshop event aims to further develop MMS networking activities, presenting ongoing work using modern methods of MMS, and creates a platform for discussion on topics of specific and general interest.
When: March 26 – March 28, 2025
Where: Leibniz-Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde (IOW), Seestr. 15, 18119 Rostock, Germany
Topics
The workshop features contributions and discussions on:
- MMS related topics at large
- Research Software and Data Infrastructures
- Research Data, Reproducibility, Open Science
In addition to plenary sessions of a more generally comprehensible character, special parallel workshops are planned on topics as
- Exploring Frontiers in Computational and Geophysical Fluid Dynamics (CFD/GFD),
- Computational Material Science and AI,
- Language Meaning: between Symbolic and Statistical Modelling.
Depending on the final submissions, the current arrangement of the Specific Session may still be subject to change.
Keynote Speakers
Already set in stone however are the great contributions by our keynote speakers:
- Leon Bergen (University of California San Diego, US): Mapping Scientific Knowledge: New Tools for Literature Understanding
- Frans van der Meer (TU Delft, NL): Data-driven multiscale analysis of the non-linear response of composite materials
- Sarah Neuwirth (Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz): Advancing Scientific Computing through Research Software Competencies and Data-Driven HPC
Their topics follow the spirit of the MMS Days, addressing researchers of the respective disciplines as well as a broader public. A further fourth keynote is still in discussion. Updates in this regard will be published on the Leibniz MMS days website as soon as possible.
Poster Session
A poster session will take place on March 26, 2025 starting at 6 p.m. giving researchers the opportunity to present, share and discuss their current research. As a small appetiser, a detailed overview of the submitted and accepted posters can already be found on their website.
2nd Leibniz MMS Science Slam
Following the past conference in 2024 the 2nd Leibniz MMS Science Slam will be part of the event. Science slams are fun competitions in which the participants present their research in a casual, entertaining way. The topics are mainly related to MMS and the talks last at most ten minutes. Presentation range from poetry to dance, rap and live experiments – everything goes as long as the law allows it.
Submission to the Leibniz MMS Days as well as the Science Slam are open until February 11.
